Autumn 2 2024
Seedling Topic: Winter Wonderland

Our Winter Wonderland topic this half-term is closely linked with Design Technology (DT). We will be bringing an element of 'design and making' into all of our EYFS areas of learning.

In Expressive Art & Design, we will plan, design and make a Christmas product which we will then sell during the 'Winter Wonderland' experience.

During Literacy, we will read the following texts: A Day in the Snow, Where's Mr Snowman, Winter Wonderland and Arctic Animals.

Our Understanding the World sessions will focus on arctic animals, and we will investigate materials that we can melt and freeze.

The children will be exposed to key language related to the topic through, Makaton signs, objects of reference, symbols and communication boards. All of which support with their knowledge and understanding and development of skills.

Autumn 1 2024
Seedling Topic: Pottery & Sculpture

Weeks 1-2 in September will focus on transitioning the children into school. During these two weeks, home visits will be taking place and 'Stay and Play' sessions.

Week 3, the new children will start school full-time and the following few weeks will consist of a 'settling in' period where children will explore the new environment and build new relationships with the staff and peers.

Topic is closely linked to Expressive Art and Design (EAD), Communication and Language and Literacy.

Our topic for Autumn 1 is 'Pottery & Sculpture' and Bunnies class will focus on creating mini clay portraits of themselves, celebrating the concept of 'Proud to be Me'. We will introduce the topic through sensory explorations of different modelling materials and focus on colours and textures.

The topic books we will explore are 'Play with Clay!' and 'Mud!'-so let's get messy!
