Wildcats

Welcome to Wildcats page!

Welcome to Wildcats class. We are a class of 13 children and we follow the Woodlands pathway. Our class teacher is Miss Prottey and our wonderful teaching assistants are Marie and Sadia.

We will share what we have been up to on our class dojo page each day so please join us there.

Spring 1

Our topic for Spring Term is Jack and the Beanstalk. It will provide the children with the opportunity to practice their speaking and listening and drama skills. Our topic will be kicked off with two very exciting events - firstly we have the M&M theatre group coming into school to perform Jack and the Beanstalk to hook the children into our topic. Then, a few days later the whole of the Woodlands pathway will be travelling to the CBSO in Birmingham City Centre to watch a 10-piece mini orchestra perform Alice in Wonderland! These theatrical opportunities will expose the children to a variety of dramatic techniques which they can use within their learning back in school for the rest of the half term.

In English we will be using the Talk 4 Writing approach to verbally learn and retell the Jack and the Beanstalk story with words and Makaton signs. We will then aim to write key words, phrases and sentences to retell the Jack and the Beanstalk story independently.

Autumn 2 summary ...

The children have worked so hard in this very busy half term building up to Christmas! Our focus for Winter Wonderland has been designing and making products to sell at the Christmas market. As our Science topic has been about melting and freezing, we decided to make cross-curricular links and melt chocolate to make chocolate crispy cakes. In English, we focused on adjectives to describe our chocolate products and to persuade customers to buy them.

Our topic for the next half term is called Winter Wonderland and will have a focus on Design & Technology. The children will design, evaluate and improve items to make and sell at the whole school Christmas market in the last week of Autumn 2. Our designs are currently top secret ... we don't want our competitors to steal our ideas!!

In Maths, we will be learning to recognise coins so please let your children experience handling and recognising coins such as 1p, 2p, 5p and 10p. You could also take your child to a local shop and support them to buy a sweet with coins.

Autumn 1 summary ...

What a busy half term we have had! The children have settled well into life in Wildcats and have made good progress with their behaviour for learning.

Our cross-curricular learning has been based around Gaudi's colourful houses. We have made houses with a variety of materials such as paper, plastic, cardboard, playdough and clay which has linked very well to our Science work on materials. We have also been working very hard making clay houses and flowers for our "Welcome to Wildcat Town" display at the art gallery. Come along on Parent's Evening to see the fabulous pottery sculptures the children have produced!

We have also had the exciting opportunity to attend golf sessions on Tuesday mornings this half term. The children have enjoyed being out in the community and also honing their hand-eye co-ordination skills by learning to hit a golf ball as far as possible. Well done, Wildcats!

Autumn 1

This half term we will spend the first 2 weeks getting to know each other and our new environment and making new friends and relationships. For the remainder of the half term our topic is ‘Pottery & Sculpture’ and we will be focusing upon the famous artist Gaudi and his colourful houses in Barcelona. This will lead on to designing and labelling houses and then progressing to descriptive writing such as colour and adjectives.

The end of our 'Pottery & Sculpture' topic will result in a colourful whole school art gallery. This was a great success last year so we can't wait to see the work that the children will produce.
