Autumn 2

This half-term our topic will be on design and technology. We will design, create and evaluate products.

The story book focus of this term, which will inspire many of our lessons, and much of our learning will be The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis.

In maths SSM we will be learning about money and in NPV we will continue learning about place value, addition and subtraction.

At the end of the half-term, our products created in our topic design and technology lessons will be used as products to sell at the Dame Ellen Pinsent Winter Wonderland event. We will be working hard this term to create some wonderful wintery products!

We will have PE on Friday afternoons and will be swimming on Thursday mornings.

 Autumn 1

This half-term we will spend the first 2 weeks getting to know each other and our new environment and making new friends and relationships.

Our story book focus this half-term will be A Dragon on the Roof by Cecile Alix, a book inspired by Antoni Gaudí.

For the remainder of the half-term our topic is ‘Pottery and Sculpture'. All of our lessons, where possible, will be linked to the topic, and we will be practising and learning about different pottery and sculpture techniques and styles. At the end of the topic, each child will produce a piece of artwork and this will be displayed in our school art gallery.

Here are some of the Robins art work from Autumn term 1:

The children this term have produced lots of art linked to our topic and story. Following inspiration from a scene detailing a giant aquarium and a variety of sea creatures, the children's work has focused on designing and making fish in a range of ways. The children first decorated and designed fish. They then made 3D fish using recycled materials. Finally, the children sculpted and painted clay fish. Our 3D recycled fish and clay sculptures will be on display at the gallery exhibition alongside a timeline of our work this term.

In addition to finding great inspiration in the story A Dragon on the Roof with their artwork, the children learnt the entire story and have been practising signing and retelling the story!

This half-term we have also loved our time spent in forest school. We have worked on our play skills, communication, friendships and enjoying our forest school.
